Diogo Dalot was poor, but concerning 0% performance should worry Ruben Amorim too

Manchester United took a point from their trip to face Nottingham Forest despite performing far from their best.

Last week, Ruben Amorim argued the 4-2 win over Brighton was one of Manchester United’s most complete performances of the season.

However, the three-match winning streak in the Premier League was halted this weekend because United drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest.

Despite taking the lead through Casemiro, Amorim saw United drop concentration and concede two quickfire goals early in the second half. Amad Diallo’s first goal of the season salvaged a point.

Amorim kept the tone positive after the full-time whistle, but the truth is: there were some disappointing performances at the City Ground.

Diogo Dalot was one of two concerns vs Nottingham Forest

United fans were less than pleased with Diogo Dalot and his defensive display against Forest. Even in the first half, Amorim was spotted complaining to Dalot about his positioning.

But it is known that United are in the market for a new wing-back, meaning Dalot is only a temporary fix on the left flank. Patrick Dorgu is still seen as a project player rather than a permanent solution.

What will concern Amorim more than Dalot is the struggles that Benjamin Sesko faced against Forest.

United fans wanted Sesko substituted against Forest after watching the Slovenian struggle to impact the match.

Amorim explained his lack of substitutions after the match, explaining that he didn’t want to “break” United’s setup, but there is no denying that Sesko endured a tough afternoon.

Unlike the left wing-back position with Dalot, Sesko is set to be United’s first-choice striker moving forward, so Amorim needs the £66m summer signing to settle in and kick on.

Joshua Zirkzee is the only real back-up option for United up front, unless either Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo are shifted centrally.

The numbers behind Benjamin Sesko’s disappointing display

It must be pointed out that Sesko has enjoyed a strong start to life at United since his move from Leipzig, but there was plenty he can learn from the Forest clash.

Sesko’s match statistics, via Sofascore, paint the picture of a player who struggled up against the physical pairing of Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic.

Sesko is usually dominant in the air, but he failed to win a single aerial duel against Forest. In possession, he was given very little time on the ball which resulted in seven losses of possession.

Failure to win a duel, complete a tackle or have a successful dribble means Sesko has a 0% success rate across the board. Getting the most out of the Slovenian will be at the top of Amorim’s priority list, so the Forest performance will be a big concern.
