Chido Obi sends Michael Carrick a hard to ignore four-goal message with latest performance for Man Utd U21

Benjamin Sesko scored the winner for Manchester United’s first team on Monday night, while the U21s waltzed to a comfortable victory thanks to a dominant Chido Obi display.

The U21s played on Monday night as well as the first team, regaining control at the top of the Premier League 2 table in the process with a 4-1 win over Leicester City.

Adam Lawrence’s side were comfortable and benefited from Chido Obi bagging four goals in the win, all of which were excellent strikers’ goals that should have Manchester United excited by the Dane.

In recent weeks, Obi has dominated for United’s U18s, but this performance represented a tangible improvement and a clear statement to Michael Carrick.

Would you give Chido Obi another chance in the first-team?

Chido Obi’s four goals against Leicester U21 should earn a recall by Michael Carrick

Carrick has spoken glowingly about United’s academy, explaining how important it is to him, and if that is the case, then surely Obi has done enough to earn a recall to the first team.

Obi putting four top-tier goals past a mid-table Premier League 2 side is a sign that the 18-year-old has put together all the pieces he needed to compete at this level.

This season has seen Obi improve his all-around game for United, and now if he is able to put in these performances while getting the goals, it shows he’s ready.

Obi used to thrash U18 opponents, and now this is the first sign of him doing so for the U21s, and Carrick should be really impressed.

All four goals were exactly what you would want a number nine to score, through on goal, clinical, and in a set-piece scrap. Obi didn’t ever look like missing his opportunities, coolly chipping the keeper on one occasion and showing nice footwork to fashion the opening.

Leicester simply couldn’t handle Obi.

What is your message to Michael Carrick after the win vs Everton?

Michael Carrick needs Chido Obi on the bench against Crystal Palace

While Obi was scoring for fun, United’s senior team was struggling in a 1-0 win over Everton, which saw Benjamin Sesko step up to score the winner again, but the lack of attacking options on the bench was alarming.

Outside of Joshua Zirkzee, who clearly isn’t rated, United didn’t have another player who could emerge off the bench with Sesko and contribute goals, creativity, and threat.

Shea Lacey could be this when fit and ready to play, but this coming weekend, Carrick needs Obi and should bring the Danish youth international instead of Jack Moorhouse.

United have a ready-made goal scorer, and he is one year of development on from looking solid in the Premier League for a very poor United. It is time he was given another opportunity to support Sesko.

Obi will be at a crossroads this summer, either ready for United or needing a loan. So Carrick should give him the opportunity to prove he’s ready.
