Michael Carrick has refused to define Bruno Fernandes with a label and it is the most powerful and perfect message about the Manchester United star’s legacy.
Bruno Fernandes first arrived at Old Trafford when interim boss Michael Carrick was a key part of the Manchester United coaching staff under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Fast-forward from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign to the present day and Fernandes’ influence in the United first team has only further developed since his impact.
Fernandes inherited the Man Utd captaincy under Erik ten Hag in 2023 and the 31-year-old Portugal international has continued to play a major role for his side.

Michael Carrick asked about how Bruno Fernandes will be remembered at Man Utd and his response spoke volumes
Michael Carrick held his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Carrington training complex ahead of the Newcastle match on Wednesday evening.
Fernandes has deeply impressed under the 44-year-old United legend after being restored to the No 10 attacking role on the pitch in the post-Ruben Amorim era.
The Manchester United midfielder has found the back of the net twice and registered five assists in Carrick’s first seven matches in charge as interim head coach.
When asked about Fernandes’ legacy at Man Utd, Carrick didn’t hold back by not getting dragged into a debate about the Portugal international’s time at Old Trafford.
“There is not loads more I can add,” he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.
“He has been here so long and had success in different ways. Shown what he is all about. That sums up Bruno as a character.
“Where he ranks in club history, that is not for me to get involved in; that is irrelevant.”

Michael Carrick already knows Bruno Fernandes’ impact at Man Utd and his name is already written in the history books
Fernandes has been at the centre of discourse around whether or not he will leave the Red Devils as a club legend after his seminal impact post-Sporting CP in 2020.
The United star’s future has been cast in speculation ahead of his contract expiring in 2027 and the continuous links with Saudi Arabia in recent seasons.
No matter where Fernandes ends up in the short term or long term, his name has already been immortalised in the longstanding history books at Old Trafford.
The United captain might not have won a Premier League title, but he has dragged the Red Devils across the line on many occasions in matches with his own hands.
If Fernandes had been at Old Trafford during the Sir Alex Ferguson era, then there would be no question about his status as a Man Utd legend.
The same should be applied to his time in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson period at the club, considering the major influence that he has had on the Red Devils.
