Unlike Manchester United, Real Madrid are expected to have a busy January transfer window.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in need of a new right-back after Dani Carvajal picked up a long-term knee injury at the start of the season.
Effectively ruling him out for the campaign, Carvajal’s unfortunate setback will see Los Blancos attempt to use the mid-season window to sign a new right-sided full-back.
Although Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is top of the Spaniard’s wishlist, luring him away from Anfield won’t be easy.
Not only has the 26-year-old spent his entire career at Liverpool, but he is on course to lift the club’s second-ever Premier League title, so regardless of his soon-to-expire contract, leaving in January won’t be the defender’s preference.
So with Trent an unlikely option – could Madrid seek a full-back from Manchester United’s ranks instead?
Diogo Dalot among Real Madrid’s January options
Real Madrid have included Diogo Dalot on their transfer shortlist, and, according to iNews, are keen to find out just how important the Portugal international is to Ruben Amorim’s plans.
Despite playing a key role for the Red Devils so far this season, Dalot has been forced to move from his preferred right side to the left following a string of injuries to Luke Shaw.

Even though the 25-year-old is second to Alexander-Arnold, Madrid are refusing to rule out a possible January approach as they look to find an urgent replacement for Carvajal.
Amad form could force Dalot transfer
Along with Shaw’s fitness problems, Dalot has lost his place at right-wing back following Amad’s inspired form.
The young Ivorian has been United’s best player so far this season, and although there hasn’t been much to cheer about domestically, the 22-year-old’s performances in the Premier League have been a rare positive.
Comparing Dalot and Amad’s impact, at both ends of the pitch, it is not hard to see why Amorim is prioritising the African, and that could lead to a surprise January transfer for Dalot, especially as INEOS look for ways to raise funds.

United’s recruitment team are working within the confines of a strict budget so making a significant signing in January is going to be tough.
Given his connections to Amorim following their time working together at Sporting Lisbon, Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as an attacking option. The prolific striker, who has netted 27 goals already this season, won’t come cheap though.
Gyokeres is valued in excess of £60 million, and United must sell before they can buy, so, should the pieces fall into place, could lead to Dalot moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.
