Alejandro Garnacho’s four-minute FA Cup cameo makes his Ruben Amorim criticism ironic

Alejandro Garnacho burned bridges on his way out of Manchester United, complaining about his game time under Ruben Amorim.

After Manchester United lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final last season, Alejandro Garnacho lashed out at Ruben Amorim and his management of the game.

Alejandro Garnacho was frustrated at playing just 20 minutes of the final after having ‘played every round’ beforehand, in his words.

Ultimately, Garnacho left to join Chelsea in a £40 million deal in the summer, but everything he complained about has only gotten worse at the London club.

Alejandro Garnacho played just four minutes in FA Cup final

Garnacho won the 2024 FA Cup final with United, scoring the opening goal for the Red Devils at Wembley.

On Saturday afternoon, he was looking to win his second FA Cup trophy, this time with Chelsea. However, they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City and Garnacho was only given four minutes to try and impact the game.

Garnacho was brought on as a substitute in the 86th minute to replace Joao Pedro.

In the span of a year, Garnacho has gone from throwing his toys out his pram because of a 20-minute stint in the Europa League final, to playing even fewer minutes for Chelsea.

Ironically, Garnacho’s game time at Chelsea has also been restricted in the Premier League with only 1,267 minutes in 2025/26.

Was Garnacho’s ‘attitude’ the issue, or is he just not suited to the Premier League’s top level?

The decline of Alejandro Garnacho

This time two years ago, Garnacho was being adored as a Manchester United wonderkid after helping to lift the FA Cup against Manchester City under Erik ten Hag.

Now, Garnacho is not even wanted at Chelsea and he has become a forbidden name around Old Trafford.

Recently, Garnacho admitted he made mistakes at United when leaving the club, but he burned bridges and so there is no way back in Manchester.

Garnacho’s attitude was his downfall and United can learn from that with the new batch of upcoming youngsters. As for the 21-year-old winger, he needs to find a way to get his career back on track.
