3/10 duels won, 0 chances created: Man United attacker lucky to stay on pitch as long as he did

Manchester United winger Antony was under fire from all angles amid a woeful performance against Fulham.

In a game which, truth be told, failed to capture the imagination and looked to be meandering towards a dull, lifeless 0-0 draw between two out-of-form sides, one player also drew the ire of Jermaine Jenas on TNT commentary.

Antony, who cost the club £86 million, failed to inspire once again and hadn’t it been for Bruno Fernandes’ heroics with his late goal, the focus, rightly so, would have been on another tepid performance from the former Ajax man.

“How he has stayed on the pitch as long as he has I don’t know. Poor,” wondered Jenas on commentary and it’s hard to argue with the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

Antony’s woes

The winger has scored just once in 28 games for the Red Devils and Brazilian just does not look up to the level that Manchester United, in their current state, are requiring, which says a lot about his performances.

The Brazilian must be counting his lucky stars that he has not been dropped because there is one man who is consistently knocking on the door for chances.

Antony completed only 79 per cent of his passes, had no shots at goal, no chances created, and won only three of 10 duels contested.

Facundo Pellistri had a short 30-minute cameo but offered much more from the bench than the 22-year-old did during the previous hour of football in London.

The Uruguayan received a couple of chances in September and October against Bayern Munich and Crystal Palace but hasn’t started for the Red Devils since, the time is now for him to make his mark on the team.

Time running out for Antony

When United decided that nearly £90 million were to be spent on the Brazilian, they surely did not expect this conversation on his future to be had so soon.

The winger seemed to receive criticism from the United faithful when he was brought off, which perhaps sums up his current fight to prove himself at Old Trafford.

Antony does not deserve to start the next game, and the worrying thing for the Brazilian is that if he were to be dropped by Erik Ten Hag, it would be a stretch to say that the United fanbase would be upset with that decision.
