Amad Diallo will no doubt have been gutted to see his AFCON dreams evaporate, but it could be the best thing for his career.
The Ivory Coast will have left 21-year-old Amad Diallo bitterly disappointed as his name was left off the squad list when it was announced recently as the BBC confirmed.
The exclusion comes as no surprise given Amad hasn’t played a minute of football since he picked up an injury during Manchester United‘s preseason.
It was only recently that he made his return to training with a first appearance under Erik ten Hag believed to be on its way.
So with that in mind, leaving for AFCON could’ve been catastrophic for his career, here is why…

Amad Diallo dodged a bullet by missing AFCON
If Amad had been selected for AFCON, there is every chance he’d have failed to feature anyway with a strong attacking contingent.
So by missing what could be a vital January in his Old Trafford career, he’d probably not gain much more than being a part of the squad. His exclusion however creates two potential positives for Amad instead.
Firstly, he’d spend a vital month on the training ground with the first team and stands a strong chance of featuring in the FA Cup and potentially in a mid-month fixture against Spurs.
Secondly, being around in January leaves him open to the possibility of a loan move with Premier League interest believed to be there.
These reasons both point toward Amad missing out on being a positive for his career as a whole despite the likely current disappointment. Now a recent training clip has added to the excitement of seeing Amad in action.
Amad Diallo looking sharp for Manchester United
As Amad gets closer and closer to making an appearance for United, a recent clip has shown he’s looking as sharp as ever.
The clip showed Amad in action taking on Willy Kambwala in a one-on-one, a battle which the Ivorian won.
The short bit of action footage has gotten United fans excited as his directness in comparison to Antony is viewed as a big improvement.
