While Manchester United do not have a strong record against Spanish opposition, the last game against a La Liga side was a 1-0 victory away at Real Sociedad.
The winner was scored by teenager Alejandro Garnacho, and the Madrid-born youngster has been picked out by Xavi as a threat for Barcelona to be wary of in the upcoming Europa League ties.
Xavi was speaking at his press conference ahead of the first leg, and spoke of his respect for Manchester United’s attack, saying that he had to try and game plan for them.
He also spoke glowingly about United top scorer Marcus Rashford, who has 21 goals already this season.

Xavi praises Garnacho
Xavi told his press conference reported by Barcelona’s website: “We will need intensity and rhythm. The Premier is a physically demanding competition and we’ll have to show that we can cope with that.”
“They make very quick transitions with players like Rashford, Garnacho and Sancho.
“They have a very strong counter-attack and we will need players who can stop those sprints. Marcus Rashford is one of the most dangerous and in-form players in Europe.”
Rashford has looked unstoppable since the World Cup, while Jadon Sancho has scored at the Nou Camp before.
Garnacho scored for United at the weekend in a win over Leeds and the Argentine talent has rediscovered his confidence.
Xavi says Barcelona must prove point
Barcelona began this season in the Champions League, but finished third in their group and were bumped down to the Europa League.
Xavi says that his side have a point to prove when they face United, feeling the need to show their credentials in Europe.
He said: “We weren’t good enough in the Champions League and that’s why we’re here.
“We are very motivated and the stadium will be full tomorrow and we have to rise to the occasion. It is an important challenge for us to show that we are able to compete in Europe.”
