Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has said he is confident Wout Weghorst is capable of leading the line for his country.
Weghorst has previously been used as more of an impact substitute for the Netherlands, a role he performed at the World Cup.
Koeman believes Weghorst’s performances for Manchester United have demonstrated his ability to help his country in a more substantive way.
Weghorst signed for Manchester United on loan in the January transfer window and he has started every single game.

Weghorst backed
Weghorst has started 18 games in a row for Manchester United, deemed an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s set up.
This might change once Anthony Martial is available after an injury – but while the Frenchman has been out, Weghorst has stepped in.
Weghorst has only scored two goals, that’s the big downside. The upsides are his constant availability and non-stop running which fits the work ethic Erik ten Hag wants.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Ronald Koeman said: “Wout has developed in such a way that he is a serious option.”
Netherlands face France this Friday and then Gibraltar on Monday.
The latter opponents could provide Weghorst with the chance to grab some goals and boost his confidence.
What he really needs though, is a rest. Marcus Rashford has pulled out of the England squad, and it would be useful for Manchester United if a few more players followed suit.
