Figures relayed by Inside Sport show how Weghorst’s performances for Wolfsburg in 2020/21, saw him match a record set by Robin van Persie.
He became the first Netherlands striker since Van Persie in 2012/13 to score 20 league goals in one of Europe’s big four leagues; England, Spain, Italy or Germany.
Weghorst struck 20 goals in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg, 25 in all competitions.
Van Persie was the last Dutchman to do so, hitting 26 goals in 38 games for Manchester United in 2012/13, and 30 in all competitions.
Other big name Dutch forwards, even including Arjen Robben at Bayern Munich, failed to hit 20 league goals during this span.
This record shows the quality Weghorst possesses, which has made Erik ten Hag keen on his signature.
While nobody will be expecting Weghorst to produce Van Persie numbers at Old Trafford, if he can even get halfway there, he will be a huge success.
