Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace after conceding an injury time free-kick.
It was a harsh lesson that a 1-0 lead is never enough, with the team failing to create enough clear cut chances to get the second goal.
Manager Erik ten Hag bemoaned this after the game, quoted by the club website: “We had control of the game, but I think we have to invest more for the second. If you then score 2-0, the game is over.
“Now you get hammered with an unlucky moment in the end.”

Manchester United players react
Manchester United’s players have given their verdict on the result, with the overriding sentiment a combination of disappointment and frustration.
Bruno Fernandes wrote on Instagram: “We stand together even when things don’t go as we want.”
Goalkeeper David de Gea also cast his mind forward, commenting: “Frustrated but we stay positive. We will be ready for the challenges ahead.”
Debutant Wout Weghorst also chipped in, expressing mixed emotions.
He posted: “Debut ✔️🔴 Disappointed result, getting ready for Sunday!”
Weghorst played 69 minutes and had just one shot, which landed off target, however he did play a key role in United’s opener.
His run in the box distracted three Palace defenders, leaving a huge gap which Bruno Fernandes moved into, and was picked out by Christian Eriksen, for his ninth assist of the season.
There will be better to come from Weghorst, who has had less than a week training with his teammates. A big match awaits against Arsenal this weekend.
