Why Patrick Dorgu will not face suspension despite picking up fifth Man Utd booking of the season vs Leeds

Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu has escaped a suspension.

The last thing Manchester United need right now is to lose more players.

Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui are all away at the AFCON. And in terms of injury news, it has been bleak.

Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt are all currently out of action.

Thankfully Patrick Dorgu has avoided adding to Ruben Amorim’s woes.

Patrick Dorgu’s fifth booking

Patrick Dorgu was selected as a starter for the fourth successive game, this time tasked with playing a very attacking role.

Unlike against Newcastle, Dorgu did not have a cutting edge to make a difference and his biggest contribution of the game was picking up a booking.

This was Dorgu’s fifth yellow card of the season, a tally that usually results in a one-game ban.

Casemiro‘s yellow card against Bournemouth was his fifth, and led to his suspension against Aston Villa.

Dorgu’s yellow card has not resulted in a suspension, and that is due to the timing.

The rules are that five yellow cards result in a one-game ban, only if they are accrued over the opening 19 league matches of the season.

Manchester United’s game at Leeds was the club’s 20th league game, so Dorgu escapes any punishment.

Cards are reset after gameweek 19, so Dorgu is now four yellow cards away from a potential ban.
