Patrick Dorgu was recently been criticised by head coach Ruben Amorim. It might have been the jolt he needed.

The Denmark international is celebrating scoring his first ever competitive goal for Manchester United, and clearly flourished in the change of system.

Ruben Amorim asked Dorgu to play on the right wing, as a winger, not a wing-back, with the team lining up with a flat back four.

Dorgu made the most of the extra attacking freedom, and scored a stunning volley to give Manchester United the win.

The 21-year-old was our star man in the victory, contributing defensively too to help the team to a clean sheet.

Patrick Dorgu’s post-game message

Patrick Dorgu was delighted to finally get on the scoresheet, playing in his 38th game for Manchester United.

Dorgu posted a message on Instagram following the win, commenting: “Incredible feeling to score my first goal at Old Trafford. God is good. Merry Christmas ⚽️🎁”

His teammates responded, including injured captain Bruno Fernandes, who noted the rarity of the strike.

Patrick Dorgu was due a goal

Patrick Dorgu netted for Manchester United in pre-season, and hit the woodwork in the opening game against Arsenal. A goal had been coming.

Dorgu has scored three goals in 12 international matches for Denmark, and scored five goals in 57 appearances for former club Lecce.

His opening goal for Manchester United was only a matter of time, and it was no coincidence that it came with the change of system.

Dorgu was able to get into more attacking areas, and playing on the right wing appeared to help him too.

Still only 21, Dorgu has outstanding potential, and fans should not forget that his development is only just getting started. The best is yet to come.
