Why Man Utd now think Bryan Mbeumo will get even better next season

Bryan Mbeumo’s debut campaign has been a mixed bag, but Manchester United think he’s only going to get better next season.

It feels like a lifetime ago that Manchester United concluded the tiresome transfer saga to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £65m.

Despite being poor since January, Mbeumo is among United’s best performers this season, scoring 10 goals in all competitions with three assists.

This is a respectable return, but long patches without mean it could have been even better for the Cameroonian forward. However, United think this is just the beginning.

Manchester United think Bryan Mbeumo will get even better next season

Mbeumo’s first season is almost in the books, and Ineos will likely say that it is a success, but next season he will need more to see that opinion remain.

Before the season starts, Mbeumo will turn 27, meaning he should be hitting his prime.

Well, according to Ben Jacobs speaking with The United Stand, the club have little doubt of this, believing he will be better next season.

“Bryan Mbeumo is happy, as far as I’m told, and Manchester United also feel that he’s only going to get better heading into next season as well.

“And that’s one thing, maybe because there’s been less games and more time to train together, which can be seen positively because behind closed doors you build chemistry, it can be seen negatively because you’ve got less games to really get into momentum.

“But either way, it was always likely that it would take six months for these new signings to settle.”

Mbeumo is a player who needs momentum

Jacobs’ claim over how United think more games will help Mbeumo actually makes a lot of sense.

This season, especially after January, United have had such a stop-start fixture list with this clearly impacting Mbeumo’s momentum and form, considering he’s been completely off it since.

So for United, next season having a game every three days for most of the campaign will be a good thing for the attacker and likely others assuming the squad is strengthened.

After a season to settle in, Mbeumo will be expected more of next season and this means 20 goals all competitions and 10 assists.

Considering he might play close to 60 games, it isn’t that much to demand.
