Seventeen-year-old winger Sam Mather has signed his first professional contract at Manchester United.
It caps off a great week for Mather who started in the UEFA Youth League 1-0 victory against Young Boys midweek and broke new ground last weekend.
Reacting to signing his first professional contract at United, Mather posted on his Instagram: “Happy to have signed my first professional contract at Manchester United, I would like thank all my friends and family for helping me along the way, hard work continues.”
The youngster made his debut for the under-23s side in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal last week after he came off the bench to replace Zidane Iqbal in the 68th minute.
This was Mather’s reward for an impressive start to the season for the under-18s. He would have gained vital experience playing alongside first team players Dean Henderson and Phil Jones.

Mather scored one goal and provided an assist in the under-18s victory over Leeds the previous gameweek, marking his strike with a Cristiano Ronaldo celebration.
The under-18s match last week was postponed, which allowed Mather to make the jump up.
It will be interesting to see who Mather features for today with the under-18s and under-23s sides both in action.
The 17-year-old had spent the international break with England’s under-18s squad. While this call-up to United’s under-23 was just a taster, it will encourage him to keep working hard.
