Manchester United’s under-18s side made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League with a hard fought 4-2 win against Stoke City at Carrington on Saturday.
Two goals from Manni Norkett, Marc Jurado’s opener and a strike from Alejandro Guarnacho proved to be enough to overcome the Potters.
It meant that Travis Binnion’s side backed up their 3-0 win against Leeds with their second league win of the campaign.
One man who was influential in the win was Sam Mather, who registered three assists against Stoke.
Some of Mather’s teammates couldn’t help but comment on his Instagram post following his influential performance, some even commented with the name of Mather’s idol who is a certain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mather scored one goal and provided an assist in the under-18s victory over Leeds earlier in the season, marking his strike with a Cristiano Ronaldo celebration.
Last week, Mather got himself on the scoresheet as the Reds youngsters beat Birmingham City 8-2 in a Under-18 Premier League Cup clash.
Earlier this month, seventeen-year-old winger Mather signed his first professional contract at Manchester United.
The youngster also made his debut for the under-23s side in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.
That was Mather’s reward for an impressive start to the season for the under-18s. He would have gained vital experience playing alongside first team players Dean Henderson and Phil Jones.
The winger who started our UEFA Youth League win against Young Boys continues to impress in our academy and will be looking to help his side make it two wins from two when we face Villarreal under-19s on Wednesday.
