Where Opta predict Manchester United are going to finish in the Premier League this season

Manchester United have had two very different finishes to the Premier League under Erik ten Hag.

The 2022/23 season under Erik ten Hag saw Manchester United finish in third position in the Premier League.

2023/24 was a lot unhappier, with Manchester United finishing in eighth place, the club’s worst ever Premier League finish.

2024/25 has got off to an inconsistent start, with mixed results to begin the Premier League campaign.

Manchester United predicted to finish eighth

Statisticians Opta have made an early season prediction for how the Premier League table will look at the end of the campaign.

Below is their predicted top 10, which unfortunately projects this season turning into another miserable one for Manchester United, with another eighth placed finish being tipped.

Eighth place finish will lead to manager change

Another eighth placed finish for Manchester United will surely lead to a managerial change, the end for Erik ten Hag.

Eighth would typically mean no European football at all next season, a very costly outcome, although United evaded this consequence last time around by winning the FA Cup.

It’s possible another trophy might not even be enough to save Ten Hag this time around.

If United limp towards another eighth placed finish, this time with three fewer points than in 2023/24, there is a chance the manager could be sacked mid-season.

We can only hope Opta’s projection is very wrong – but so far this season United rank down in 11th place.

Ten Hag’s side have been putting in some improved performances on last season, without the results, and many tough fixtures await.
