Where Jadon Sancho ranks number one in Manchester United’s side this season

Jadon Sancho is settling in at Manchester United after making his big money move from Borussia Dortmund.

The winger is perceived to have had a slow start at Old Trafford to date, still looking for his first goal or assist.

An unfortunate tactical substitution due to a red card to Aaron Wan-Bissaka saw Sancho taken off after just 35 minutes against Young Boys in midweek.

Showing positive signs

The underlying numbers behind Sancho’s performances suggest he is on the right track, a lot more so than anybody may realise.

Statistics from FBRef.com show Mason Greenwood leads United for Shot Creating Actions, a pass, dribble or foul drawn leading to a shot on goal, with 16. Sancho follows with 10.

Split this into Shot Creating Actions per 90 minutes and Sancho is number one in Manchester United’s squad with 4.89, with Greenwood on 4.09. Paul Pogba is on 3.92 and Bruno Fernandes on 3.31.

Sancho has had eight passes from open play leading to a shot attempt so far this season in just 184 minutes of Premier League action.

Back Sancho to come good

Sancho’s big price tag and reputation as a game changer have increased the pressure on him to perform right away.

United fans just need to show a little patience, because Sancho is having more of an impact than anybody may realise.

Against Newcastle he was particularly bright in the first half as United tried to make a breakthrough.

Sancho is going to have a huge impact as the season goes on as he attunes to the play of his new teammates and gels into United’s system. Keep the faith…
