Today marks the fifth year anniversary since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s memorable Champions League night in Paris as Manchester United manager.
It feels like no time at all since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had that mesmerising run after being appointed interim boss of Manchester United.
The highlight of this was the 3-1 win away from home to PSG in the Champions League last 16, with Marcus Rashford‘s late penalty winning the tie.
This was five years ago now, however, so we’ve wondered where are the starting XI from this game now. Let’s have a look…

Manchester United’s XI that beat PSG 5 years on
Ole went to Paris that year with a mountain to climb and with a poor squad, he managed to do just that.
But where are these players now?
David de Gea
David de Gea was released by United in June 2023 and has so far, remained without a club and is still a free agent even now.
Eric Bailly
Eric Bailly, like De Gea, only departed last summer and has already played for two sides with Besiktas tearing up his contract before Villareal picked him up.
Chris Smalling
Chris Smalling was sold to Roma in 2020 and has since worked with Jose Mourinho and played a big part in Europa Conference League success.
Victor Lindelof
The first of four players who remain at Old Trafford, Victor Lindelof is a squad player for Erik ten Hag but could find himself for sale this summer.
Luke Shaw
Another player who remains at United, Luke Shaw is an incredible player for Ten Hag when fit with the only issue being his fitness.
Ashley Young
United sold Ashley Young in 2020 to Inter Milan where he remained for 18 months before re-joining Aston Villa. He has since moved once more to Everton where he now plays a key role for Sean Dyche.
Scott McTominay
The third to remain, Scott McTominay has been vital this season and has made himself into an excellent goalscorer for Ten Hag. He is the club’s second-top goal scorer this season which is a new aspect to his game.
Fred
Fred left United last summer, sold to Fenerbahce where he has been impressive as they are locked firmly in a title race with Galatasaray.
Andreas Pereira
Andreas Pereira joined Fulham in 2022 for an undisclosed fee and has since impressed at a pretty consistent level in the Premier League.
Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku has one of the longest CVs in football right now as United sold him to Inter for £63m in 2019. He then headed back to Chelsea in a £105m move where he struggled before heading back to Inter on loan, and now resides on loan with Roma but a return to Chelsea is likely.
Marcus Rashford
The final name and the game-winner that night, Marcus Rashford, remains at Old Trafford and is still trying to return to the incredible season he had in 2022/23.
