Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was paying close attention as Arsenal lost to PSG in the Champions League final.

Just days after winning the Premier League title, Manchester United’s rivals Arsenal failed to win their first European trophy by suffering a penalty shootout defeat to PSG in the Champions League final.

Sir Alex Ferguson won two Champions League trophies as United manager, winning the Premier League in the same season on both occasions – 1999 and 2008.

On Saturday evening, Sir Alex Ferguson watched Arsenal fall short in Hungary, and he was in touch with PSG’s club president shortly after.

Sir Alex Ferguson takes dig at Arsenal in PSG text

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Ferguson sent a text message to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to congratulate him on the win, and to take a swipe at his old foes Arsenal.

“Nasser, this is Alex Ferguson,” the text read.

“Well done, it was a tough night for you, but you played against a boring team that did nothing but defend. Enjoy your holidays, you deserve it.”

Arsenal’s style of play has been a controversial talking point all season, with Mikel Arteta’s side limping through games often by relying on set pieces and organised defending.

In the final, Arsenal had just one shot on target in 120 minutes and ended the match with just 28% of possession.

Former Man Utd target Joao Neves takes swipe at Arsenal

Ferguson was not the only one frustrated with Arsenal’s negative style of play.

Former United transfer target Joao Neves, who instead made his move to PSG, was also frustrated by Arteta’s side.

After the full-time whistle, Neves said: “Coming here was the best decision I’ve ever made.

” I love everything here. We deserved it today, because PSG were the only team that wanted to play.”

It seems a lot of the footballing world, including Ferguson, was happy to see Arsenal lose.
