Eagle-eyed Manchester United fans spotted the ‘true’ side to Ruben Amorim’s personality during one important moment in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

The Red Devils travelled to Anfield for their Premier League showdown on Sunday evening after signing off 2024 in a poor run of form under Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United had lost their last three Premier League matches ahead of the Liverpool clash, including suffering a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s side have not won a match since their 2-1 Premier League comeback win against Manchester City at the Etihad in December 2024.

However, the 39-year-old United manager oversaw a superb performance from the Red Devils against the Premier League leaders on the weekend.

United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool moved the Red Devils to 13th place in the league table, with Amorim’s men level on points with 14th-place West Ham.

The Red Devils are seven points clear of the relegation zone and United are 13 points off from the top four after 20 league matches played this season.

Man Utd fans spot Amorim on touchline

Ruben Amorim was in his technical area at Anfield the moment that Lisandro Martinez broke the deadlock for Manchester United in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes played through Lisandro Martinez and the United defender fired a powerful strike over Alisson and straight into the back of the Liverpool net.

United’s lead lasted seven minutes before Cody Gakpo pulled Liverpool level, with Mohamed Salah then putting the Reds into the lead in the 70th minute.

Amad Diallo cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s penalty in the 80th minute after he netted for United and both sides walked away with a point from the match.

Amorim made the rounds on social media after a clip surfaced of him on X, formerly known as Twitter, during Martinez’s second-half opener at Anfield.

The United manager’s coaching staff erupted into celebration after the Red Devils took the lead, while Amorim remained calm and composed on the touchline.

Amorim walked over to a bottle of water on the floor, picked it up and took a drink before pacing himself in the technical area while United players celebrated.

United fans on social media loved the now-viral clip and felt that it showed the ‘ice-cold’ part of his personality and his composure during a key moment in the match.

Amorim’s message to Man Utd players

Despite defying the odds against Liverpool, Amorim insisted that he remains focused on the “long” season ahead and urged his players to “maintain” their high level of mentality.

“The end of the season is so long,” he said at his post-match press conference, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“But we had some good games during this last month. Good games, but then we drop again.

“It’s something that we need to be really consistent. So, if we have this talk after one… Against [Manchester] City was the same.

“So, we can talk but we need to show and to do it. And the best thing is right away tomorrow; tomorrow we have training and we have to maintain the same level of mentality.”
