United fans back Carrick

Manchester United are winning games, and doing so in style. United’s victories against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham came with the Red Devils the indisputably better team in all four.

United have kept clean sheets in two of the four games, with Carrick quickly finding a settled preferred line-up.

We asked United fans on TalkingPoints who should be manager for the start of the 2026/27 season, and Carrick is running away with the poll.

With more than 8,000 votes, Carrick has received 45 per cent, with Carlo Ancelotti second with 12.9 per cent.

The comments continue to pile in, and in recent days, it is all pro-Carrick. Here is a selection of responses.

“Carrick for permanent manager at United,” read one message.

“Give Carrick the manager’s job don’t need any big name in, give him a chance,” added another.

A third wrote: “It has to be Carrick surely? I haven’t seen us playing like us for a long time and he has bought back that magical feeling.”

Another fan posted: “Surely Michael Carrick!!”

A further message asked: “Beats City Arsenal Fulham and Spurs. All top teams. Have any of the so called super managers done that..???”

Another fan praised: “Michael Carrick performance is incredible.”

“Carrick should get permanent post . He has done a great job so far. I wonder why people want someone else to take the position. Carrick is best for the job,” added another recent comment.

United’s task is still not complete, with 13 fixtures of the season remaining. A further message urged Carrick to simply keep on doing what he is doing.

“If we finish in the top four, then he has to get the job! That is proof that he knows what he is doing. Everyone at the club is smiling again.”

Another fan called on United to make the right decision, but expressed fear that Ineos could go in a different direction.

“I hope Carrick is appointed, but I think Glasner or De Zerbi will be appointed.”

One more sceptical fan urged caution, writing: “If he gets the job it should be one year rolling contract.”

Gary Neville says Carrick is in the mix

Former United star Gary Neville says Ineos will not be making any instant decisions, and will assess Carrick on his merits.

He told Sky Sports: “What they’ve said is they’re not going to be bounced into, irrespective of wins or draws or losses on the pitch in this next couple of months, making an appointment. They’re going to wait towards the end of the season.

“If Michael Carrick says ‘I want to put my name in the hat’, Carrick would go into a process.”
