Manchester United and England defender Luke Shaw has opened up on two important parts of his process for Premier League matches at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old England international has arguably had one of his most consistent Premier League seasons at Old Trafford since his 2014 move from Southampton.

Luke Shaw has started every single Premier League match for Manchester United in the 2025-26 campaign and has impressed with his overall performances in defence.

The Three Lions ace has also shown his versatility this season, including playing as a left-sided centre-back under former Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim.

Man Utd star Luke Shaw explains a key part of his pre-match ritual for Premier League fixtures at Old Trafford

Luke Shaw has been able to overcome injuries in the current campaign and defied all expectations that were placed on the Manchester United and England left-back.

The former Southampton defender now has the real chance to finish the 2025-26 season by starting in every single Premier League match for the Red Devils.

Speaking to United’s official magazine, Shaw has now admitted an important part of his pre-match ritual is trying to spot his kids in the Old Trafford stands.

“Before the game, I’m just so focused,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“I’ve been lucky to walk out with my children as mascots, and that’s been nice, but normally before the game, I kind of just leave it. But after the game, especially after a good victory, it’s nice to look out for them.

“They are always in the same spot, so I know where they are and I’ll give them a little wave and stuff, so it’s nice.”

Luke Shaw on why his post-match routine for Man Utd matches at Old Trafford is incredibly important

Outside of spending time with his family post-match, Shaw revealed that he cannot overlook the importance of his “recovery” routine amid his injury-prone spell.

“After the game, I think I always tend to get a recovery rub,” he explained.

“Sometimes I’ll get in the ice baths, so get in there, leave and get home. I think my evenings now look a lot different to what they were five or 10 years ago!

“I’ve got an extremely busy house now with four kids, so there’s not much I can do now really apart from just play and have fun with them.

“I think especially going back after a good win and being able to enjoy it with my kids and family, it’s really special.”

Shaw is under contract with United until 2027 and the Red Devils ace is widely expected to remain at Old Trafford for the 2026-27 Premier League campaign.
