Manchester United mounted a very special comeback to beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Two late Scott McTominay goals turned the mood at Old Trafford on it’s head to give the Red Devils a much-needed victory.
Manchester United fans know by now not to discount the possibility of a late comeback in any game – but the numbers were not in the team’s favour.
United had scored only seven goals in seven games plus 93 minutes against Brentford – before suddenly scoring twice in four minutes.
Brentford fans chants go quiet
As late as the 93rd minute, Brentford were leading 1-0, and they were keen to rub it in. One particularly taunt could be heard coming from the away end.
“You’re getting sacked in the morning”, was being sung from the Brentford fans, directed towards Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, reported BBC Sport.
Moments later, Scott McTominay stepped up to seal an equaliser, and Manchester United were not satisfied.
McTominay netted another in the 97th minute to seal a 2-1 victory, and flip the narrative on it’s head.
A tough month for Ten Hag
The scrutiny has increased on Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after a really tough month.
The team have lost both Champions League games, and have had a shaky record in the Premier League.
While Brentford fans were revelling in his struggles, the feeling was not shared by the Bees manager.
Thomas Frank told BBC Sport: “I’m happy for Erik, but of course not happy for myself. When you are on this end, it is brutal.”
Moments like Saturday’s late winner can change everything. Another loss would have made this a really difficult international break.
There are still big questions for Erik ten Hag to answer – but he won’t be getting sacked in the morning, with Brentford fans cursing their luck at failing to pick up a point from their efforts.
