What Aaron Wan-Bissaka said about facing Man United as £15m star admits to ‘mixed emotions’

Aaron Wan-Bissaka will face Manchester United on Sunday for the first time since his sale in the summer.

The 26-year-old spent five seasons at Old Trafford after signing from Crystal Palace for £50m under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka made 190 appearances for the Red Devils and won the FA Cup and League Cup under Erik ten Hag before departing this summer.

West Ham paid £15m for Wan-Bissaka with United signing Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich to replace him at right-back.

Mazraoui has enjoyed a strong start to the season with United but eyebrows were raised when he started at No.10 against Fenerbahce on Thursday night.

United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they face West Ham at the London Stadium, and Wan-Bissaka could line up against his former side for the first time since leaving.

There will certainly be no hard feelings from United fans toward Wan-Bissaka. The quietly-spoken right-back was a brilliant servant at Old Trafford and never complained about anything.

He will likely have the task of marking former teammates Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford, who have both been in good form in recent weeks.

Speaking to West Ham’s media ahead of Sunday’s match, Wan-Bissaka admitted he will have “mixed emotions” about facing his former side.

“It’ll be quite special,” he said. “I haven’t seen them in a while so to come up against them it’ll be mixed emotions, you know, but the main focus is to come up with a win and produce a whole team performance.

“I haven’t been watching too much of them since I left, to be honest, but it’s always a test. Even in training when I was there, we used to come up against each other, so I know what they’re capable of doing as a team.”

United are under huge pressure to pick up results in the Premier League with the Red Devils currently down in 13th after an awful start to the season.

West Ham have also started slowly and sit three points behind United in 16th place. Sunday’s clash is a huge opportunity for United to get their season back on track.

However, Wan-Bissaka will not make things easy for United, who are already struggling to score.

Fans will know that the 26-year-old is one of the best one-on-one defenders in world football, so either Garnacho or Rashford will have their hands full against the Hammers.
