Manchester United have to rebuild for next season and the busy work has already begun.

In the January transfer window Manchester United struck two deals, signing players the club could not wait to sign.

One was wing-back Patrick Dorgu, and the second was young centre-back Ayden Heaven.

United believe Ayden Heaven could become a top level defender and did not want to wait until the summer for his signature, moving swiftly to wrap up a deal.

Ayden Heaven has made an immediate impression since joining United, establishing himself as a first team level player, ending the season on a high in the final game.

Ruben Amorim praises Ayden Heaven

Ayden Heaven returned to Manchester United’s starting line-up for the final game of the season against Aston Villa.

United won the game 2-0, with Ayden Heaven performing at a high level, starring for 66 minutes as the team earned a rare clean sheet.

Statistics showed Ayden Heaven won 60 per cent of his duels and even created one goalscoring opportunity.

Speaking after the game to MUTV, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim picked out the defender for praise.

Amorim made a point of thanking technical director Jason Wilcox for the signing.

He said: “Jason Wilcox is doing a great job bringing in players like this to the club.

“Ayden showed his character after the big injury. We want this kind of player.”

United are building defensively for the future

One of the aims for Manchester United heading into this season was to bring down the age of the defence.

Harry Maguire is 32, while Victor Lindelof, 30, and Jonny Evans, 37, will now leave the club after their contracts expired.

The signature of Leny Yoro, now 19, and Ayden Heaven, 18, were made in preparation for their departures, with a view to building for the future.

Both Yoro and Heaven have shown this season that they can contribute immediately, and while the development of players is not always linear, United appear to have recruited two very talented young centre-backs.
