Matheus Cunha had a slow start to life at Old Trafford since he was signed from Wolves and has been unable to replicate his scintillating form from his Molineux spell last season.

However, the former Wolves ace has been growing in confidence as the 2025-26 Premier League season has unfolded amid his transition to life at Man Utd.

Cunha has impressed in recent weeks under Michael Carrick and the Brazil international has scored twice in his last five Premier League matches under him.

Bruno Fernandes has enjoyed a resurgence in form under Manchester United legend Michael Carrick after a key position change in the post-Ruben Amorim era.

The 31-year-old Man Utd captain has been shifted to the No 10 role and has been playing behind Bryan Mbeumo, who has been deployed as the lone forward.

Fernandes has now found the back of the net once and registered four assists in Carrick’s first five Premier League fixtures as Red Devils interim head coach.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Cunha singled out Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee for their finishing abilities in training.

“Every training, after training, we stay to do finishing, so it’s always a good competition to have him [Mbeumo], Bruno [Fernandes], Ben [Sesko], Josh [Zirkzee], everyone around the team,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“I feel like we are starting to reach our level.”

Matheus Cunha’s honest feelings on seeing Bryan Mbeumo’s finishing first-hand at Man Utd

Cunha admitted that he was deeply impressed with fellow summer signing Bryan Mbeumo’s finishing, both in United matches and at the Carrington training complex.

“He’s so shy, he doesn’t speak much, but I speak French and I always speak with him,” he explained.

“He’s the kind of guy that, like I say, he’s special, I love to be around him and [talk] about the game, the life. Honestly, he finishes very well.”

Mbeumo, who was signed from Brentford last summer, has netted an impressive 10 times in 22 matches across all competitions for United in his debut season so far.
