Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has finally revealed his favourite strike partner that he played alongside for the Red Devils.

Wayne Rooney broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record for Manchester United in 2017 when he netted a stunning free kick in the 1-1 draw against Stoke City at the Bet365 stadium.

He departed Old Trafford in the summer of 2017 and was eventually replaced by Romelu Lukaku for £75 million but the Englishman’s time at United will always be remembered fondly due to his goalscoring exploit at the club.

Rooney played alongside some world-class strikers in his time at Old Trafford and he has named the forward he liked playing alongside the most.

In an interview with SportBible in 2022, the Englishman, who was recently sacked as manager of Birmingham City, has finally revealed the striker that he enjoyed playing alongside the most.

“Tevez. I just loved our connection,” Rooney said without a moment’s hesitation. “The two of us up front, we complimented each other really well.

“Normally if I played with Louis Saha, Ruud van Nistelrooy or Robin van Persie – these strikers were always the No.9 and I’d play as a No.10.

“With Tevez, we could rotate, I’d be the No. 9, he’d take the No. 9 spot and I’d be No. 10. When we lost the ball we’d be like two bulls trying to get it back. As a strike partner, he was the one I enjoyed playing with the most.”

During his time as a United player Rooney won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and three League Cups in addition to the Club World Cup but his most successful period at the club was with the Argentine forward.

The Red Devils won their third European Cup in 2008 against Chelsea and Carlos Tevez scored one of the vital penalties that won United the trophy on an emotional night in Moscow.

Despite leaving for Manchester City in the summer of 2009, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Tevez formed a lethal partnership with the English striker and it’s just a shame that they didn’t play together for longer.
