Wayne Rooney suggests one Man Utd player has been even better than Erling Haaland this season

Wayne Rooney included one Manchester United player when asked to name the three best performers in the Premier League right now.

After a slow start to the season, Manchester United fans felt let down after a series of poor performances following an abysmal 2024/25 campaign.

The Red Devils looked so far away from the levels expected of them as the pressure mounted on Ruben Amorim.

It was hard to see a quick recovery, but United have been unbeaten in five matches after Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave Amorim his public backing.

As things stand, in mid-November, United are one point adrift of the top four. It helps that some of the new signings have hit the ground running, but Ineos deserve credit for that after pushing hard to sign players with Premier League experience.

United are back in action on Monday night when they host Everton in the Premier League. They will be looking to get back to winning ways as well as increase the second-longest unbeaten run active in the top-flight.

Wayne Rooney names Bryan Mbeumo in Premier League top three

Perhaps one of the biggest factors behind United’s improved results is that Amorim now has one of the best forwards in the league.

Bryan Mbeumo has been the best signing of the summer so far, scoring six goals in 12 matches for United.

On top of that, Mbeumo was named Premier League Player of the Month for October, but Rooney believes he is among the top performers in England right now.

Rooney’s top three list for Amazon Prime also includes United-linked Antoine Semenyo, who has been incredible for Bournemouth, scoring six goals and registering three assists.

The final player to make Rooney’s list is new Arsenal signing Victor Gyokeres. Amorim worked with the Swede at Sporting CP, and United were linked with the 27-year-old in the summer.

Rooney had no room for Man City’s Erling Haaland in his list, which is likely to cause debate, but the Norwegian striker hasn’t been better than any of the three named on the list.

What do Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Victor Gyokeres have in common?

The answer to this question is not that they’ve all been linked with United at some stage of their career, with Mbeumo being the only one to actually sign for the club.

All three players listed by Rooney as the best in the Premier League so far this season have scored six goals across all competitions.

Should Man Utd pay Antoine Semenyo’s £65m release clause in January?

Mbeumo and Semenyo’s goals have all come in the Premier League, while two of the six scored by Gyokeres came in the Champions League.
