Wayne Rooney has opened up about the guidance he gave Marcus Rashford two years ago after observing the forward’s game.
Marcus Rashford got his dream move to Barcelona in the summer, albeit on loan until the end of the season.
Barcelona have an option to buy the 27-year-old, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe won’t let Rashford go for cheap, especially if he continues to perform for the La Liga giants.
Rashford has already impressed for Barcelona this season, registering four goal contributions in the last four matches, including a second-half brace against Newcastle in the Champions League.
It’s a shame that things didn’t go quite to plan for Rashford at Old Trafford, but Ruben Amorim quickly decided that the forward was surplus to requirements in his plans for the future.

Wayne Rooney’s advice to Marcus Rashford
Former United captain Wayne Rooney has been sharing his football wisdom since he retired in 2021. The former England international left Old Trafford in 2017 before going on to play for Everton, DC United and Derby County.
After trying his hand at management, Rooney is now a pundit, enjoying the beautiful game and giving his perspective on important issues.
Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, United’s record scorer with 253 goals revealed that he gave Rashford advice on his game two years ago.
Rashford was struggling for form at United when Rooney spoke to him, but he was unable to turn things around before being sent on loan to Aston Villa for the second half of last season.
“I spoke to Marcus Rashford on this a couple of years ago, because I felt he was slowing the ball down too much and passing back and turning. I said, right, when you get the ball, all you need to do is get a full back one v one, knock it past him and run.
“He won’t catch you. And even if they do, you might win a free kick, might win a penalty, you get a throw-in high up the pitch. Be positive, because if you ask any defender, that’s what they don’t like, and then running behind off the ball.
“It’s so simple to be effective that way. And now players may want to do four, five, six step overs, and then they get a clip on YouTube, which they can show everyone. That’s the way it’s going.”
Rashford’s rare assist
During his time at United, Rashford never assisted a goal directly from a corner kick.
However, Rashford set up Ronald Araujo from a corner kick against Real Oviedo on Thursday night.
Rashford will keep the critics quiet if he can continue recording goal contributions.
Furthermore, it will help United when Ineos ask for more money for Rashford’s signature.
