Virgil Van Dijk has fired back at Roy Keane’s comments claiming that the Dutch defender was arrogant following Manchester United’s draw with Liverpool.
Following Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield, Virgil Van Dijk was very critical of the Red Devils’ performance in the encounter.
Erik ten Hag set up his United team to be defensively solid and attempt to hit Liverpool on the counter-attack and it very nearly worked with Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho having chances to win the game.
However, the Merseyside club were not happy with United’s tactics which led to former Red Devils captain Roy Keane biting back at the Liverpool captain.

Van Dijk responds
Van Dijk’s post-match comments did not go down well with Keane who claimed that the Dutch defender showed a lot of arrogance in his interview and the former Southampton man has responded.
Speaking to the BBC, Van Dijk was asked about Keane’s comments and replied, he said: “I like Roy Keane, if he said that then it’s fine.
“He is Manchester United throughout and I understand he could react like that but I felt what I said and there is absolutely no arrogance in that.
“Everyone who watched the game probably felt the same. We move on. We had the opportunity and we couldn’t score and that’s the frustrating part.”
The Dutch defender’s comments were rather over the top, United did not play into Liverpool’s hands and the Merseyside club became frustrated as time went on, which led to the Red Devils growing in confidence.
Ten Hag got one over Klopp
It was a performance that former United boss Jose Mourinho would have been proud of and the former Ajax manager should certainly be proud of it, too.
The Red Devils came into the game not given a chance by the media and indeed fans. To get a point from Anfield in any year, whether United were in a title race or not, is always a positive.
Ten Hag’s players stood up to the Anfield test and passed it with flying colours. Had the United front line been more clinical with the chances they got, they could have picked up all three points.
