Manchester United are waiting for Raphael Varane to make up his mind over his future.
It appears he is not ready yet.
Varane has posted his first social media update since his acknowledgement of France’s Euro 2020 exit to Switzerland in late June.
Varane is now enjoying his holiday, and appears to be relishing having a break from football.
Varane is at least getting some time and clear headspace in which to contemplate his future.
The Frenchman has to decide whether to renew his contract with Real Madrid or sign with Manchester United, or even follow Sergio Ramos to PSG.
ESPN reported a week ago that United were making good progress with a potential deal for Varane.
But there are still too many variables for fans to get carried away, as little progress has been made since.
Any deal is on hold until after Varane’s holiday, and right now he is still away with his family.
Real may make one more pitch to keep the centre-back, while United have to make the most attractive offer of other interested clubs.
Dealing with Real won’t be easy, but Varane has just one year left on his deal.
Once his holiday is over he will want his future to be decided swiftly, so that he can start planning ahead for the new season. United kick off against Leeds on August 14.
