Manchester United want to tie down wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho to a new contract within the next few months.
Garnacho has burst into the United first team to a greater degree within the last week, with two starts in the Europa League.
The Argentine scored the winner in the 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad, although of course it was not enough to ensure United came top of the group.
Absences in wide areas have handed Garnacho a chance and he is grabbing it with both hands, and United want to secure his future.
United want Garnacho to sign new contract
Fabrizio Romano said on Twitter that United want to push ahead with getting the deal sorted, but they are relaxed and confident that he will sign it.
Back in July, Romano said that Erik ten Hag had approved United’s plan to offer Garnacho a new contract.
“Ten Hag is really convinced of the skills of this boy (Garnacho).” Romano said on YouTube.
“But the idea of the club is to offer him a new contract. It’s also approved by the manager. Contract discussions will be ongoing with Garnacho.”
Garnacho has had to be patient during the summer and the season to wait for his opportunity but it has come his way eventually.
Bruno Fernandes told BT Sport after last night’s game: “At the beginning of the season he was not at his best.
“In the [pre-season] tour he didn’t have the best attitude that he should have had, and that’s why he didn’t get his chances until now.
“Now he’s getting his chances because he’s training better, he’s having a different attitude and he’s deserving his chances. Everyone is really happy for him and pleased with his goal.”
It seems a matter of time before Garnacho puts pen to paper and it would be best for everyone if the situation is sorted sooner rather than later.
