United loanee Ethan Galbraith jokingly compared to Andrea Pirlo by Salford City teammate

Manchester United loanee Ethan Galbraith has been jokingly compared to Italian legend Andrea Pirlo by Salford City teammate Ibou Touray.

The 21-year-old scored a screamer in Salford’s 2-0 Sky Bet League Two win away to Hartlepool United last night.

With his side leading 1-0 deep into injury time, instead of wasting time and taking the ball into the corner, much to Elliot Watt’s dismay, the two-time Northern Ireland international hit an unstoppable piledriver which flew into the top corner.

All was forgiven from Watt after Salford’s fellow midfielder saw the ball fly into the top corner, and Ammies boss Neil Wood, who managed Galbraith during his time in charge of Manchester United’s then under-23 side, said that the youngster has got that type of wonder strike in him.

Galbraith, who spent last season on loan in Sky Bet League One with Doncaster Rovers, was named in the League Two team of the week following his influential performance at The Suit Direct Stadium, which helped ensure The Ammies got back to winning ways following Saturday’s defeat to Stockport County.

After being part of a Doncaster side that suffered relegation last season, in his first loan move away from United, Galbraith will be hoping to experience the total opposite during his second temporary move.

Following last night’s win, Wood’s men are fifth in the table and four points off the automatic promotion places with a game in hand.

Following his wonder strike, Galbraith’s post after the game on Instagram was met with praise from current and former Manchester United teammates, as well as Salford players.

United youngsters Dan Gore and Teden Mengi both said it was ‘normal’ for Galbraith to be scoring goals of such high quality.

Whereas first team star Anthony Elanga, who played alongside Galbraith for United’s youth sides, commented: “Only bangers”.

But it was Salford left-back Touray who gave Galbraith the biggest compliment by simply commenting “Pirlo” in reference to former Italy, AC Milan and Juventus midfield maestro Andrea Pirlo.

Being compared to the one of the greatest midfielders of all time is a huge honour for Galbraith and Pirlo would have no doubt been impressed by Galbraith’s strike if he had seen it.

Galbraith has made one cameo appearance for the Manchester United first team and that came back in November 2019 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer selected a youthful side for the Europa League trip to Kazakhstan side Astana.
