Fears are growing at Manchester United, that centre-back Raphael Varane is set to see his season ended by injury.

Varane went off at half time in the first leg against Sevilla, with a long term issue. The issue was one he had been complaining about for weeks prior according to Erik ten Hag.

The United medical team had to wait for the swelling to subside. Before being able to diagnose the full extent of Varane injuries.

This diagnoses has brought more bad news for United. With the previous thoughts being that he may return this season. However according to The Mirror, subsequent scans have suggested Varane faces a six week layoff.

This takes him out of the equation for the remainder of the Premier League season. With a possible FA Cup final being the only game he could possibly feature in.

Varane therefore joins his centre-back partner Lisandro Martinez, as both now face long-term injuries. Quite unbelievably, both these season enders happened in the same fixture.

Varane’s season review

Varane has had an incredible season at United with only a few low points. His partnership with Martinez was the catalyst for success, with the League Cup win the highlight.

Varane leaves the season after guiding United to 13 clean sheets, having a key role in a potential David de Gea golden glove.

Therefore, the Frenchman will be disappointed picking up an injury, given he reportedly retired from international football, to avoid this.

It is a sad end to such a positive season under ten Hag. However, Varane will be back stronger than ever.
