Raphael Varane has ‘complained’ about injury for two weeks says Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag claims Raphael Varane’s injury sustained last night is one he has ‘complained about for weeks’.

Varane’s night ended early in the 2-2 draw against Sevilla at Old Trafford, with Harry Maguire replacing him at halftime.

Following the game last night ten Hag shed some light onto the situation saying that Varane’s issue is one he is aware of.

“I haven’t spoken to Rapha after the game but it’s an injury he [has] complained [about] over the last couple of weeks and we have to see how it is now.”

Varane’s centre-back partner Lisandro Martinez joined him on the injured list, as he pulled up in acres of space.

Varane is a world-class centre-back and his absence will be devastating for ten Hag, given his reluctance to use club captain Maguire throughout the season.

The former Madrid man’s consistency this season has been a key factor in United’s success. This a big change from his first year at United, which saw him plagued by injuries.

Varane has been pivotal in United’s 13 league clean sheets this season, which is the joint most in the league. This compared to just eight last season in the 38 league games.

Varane and Martinez are heralded amongst the leagues best duos, bringing the fear factor back to Old Trafford.

With a key run of games coming up, this injury has came at a terrible time for United. With so much still to play for this season.

Victor Lindelöf is now seemingly the only centre-back available to face Brighton next weekend in the FA Cup semi-final, with Harry Maguire suspended.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday, Erik ten Hag added he was still awaiting medical tests to clarify the extent of both Varane and Martinez’s injuries.
