Manchester United and Aston Villa played out a 0-0 draw at Villa Park with the Red Devils digging in to claim a point.
It would take a team only three games to reach the nine points total. After seven games, Manchester United still only have eight points.
This is an embarrassingly poor return, with Manchester United slumped down in 14th place, mercifully only six points off the top four.
Manchester United now head into the second international break, with the next Premier League match scheduled against Brentford on October 19.

Emery and Ten Hag comment on international break
Two international breaks three months into the league season is too much. And there is another one in November. It is an unavoidable problem for players and managers to deal with, along with supporters.
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery was asked whether the pause came at a good time, and he reflected that he did not mind it at all.
Villa are fifth in the Premier League and also recorded a big Champions League win over Bayern Munich in the week.
Emery told Villa media: “It’s a nice moment to rest. This week we are going to work and recover some players.
“We are going to add Kamara and Mings, which is very good news. Hopefully some injured players can come back for the next match against Fulham.”
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag did not share the same view. He does not welcome the upcoming break.
Ten Hag told club media: “It’s never a good time, you want to keep going.
“You see we are improving, but now the players go away. Every club has to deal with this.”
United desperate for points
Unai Emery is happy with his team’s start to the season. He can afford to take a breather, and knows his players will benefit from it.
Erik ten Hag on the other hand is desperate for results. He knows his job depends on Manchester United achieving an absolute minimum of qualifying for European football next season.
Eight points from seven games is a pathetic return, and most worryingly, Manchester United have scored only five goals in the Premier League all season.
The next league games are at home to Brentford and away to West Ham, before a home clash with Chelsea in early November.
If United still have not cracked the double figure points mark by time these three games are over – we cannot see Erik ten Hag still being in a job.
