Tyrell Malacia has not had the best start for his country, as he gives away a penalty just minutes after coming on for the Netherlands.

Tyrell Malacia came on as a substitute when Ronald Koeman’s side were trailing 3-2 to Croatia in extra-time of the UEFA Nations League clash.

The United full-back replaced Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, with the hope to swing the game back in the balance of Le Oranje.

This wasn’t to be the case and in fact, it ended up being a poor decision with Malacia all but ensuring the tie was put to bed.

Tyrell Malacia gives away a clumsy penalty

It was a night to forget for the young full-back, who gave away a penalty no more than nine minutes after stepping onto the field.

The penalty was stonewall, with Malacia hacking down Bruno Petkovic in the area.

Ex-Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric stepped up to take the penalty and there was only one outcome. He neatly dispatched it past a helpless Justin Bijlow.

Malacia has faced a lot of scrutiny following this, but you have to remember he’s still a young lad at 23 – with a lot to learn.

For the first season, he did tremendously well for United. A huge step up from the Eredivisie, the full-back carried himself well and had some very notable performances, particularly Liverpool at home.

He also majorly surpassed some of his personal targets, admitting he didn’t expect to be playing anywhere near the number of games he featured in.

Put this behind you Tyrell.
