Tyrell Malacia is not involved in the Manchester United matchday squad against Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United have sustained another defensive injury, with fitness the reason for Malacia not featuring.

Malacia had made the key error in Manchester United’s draw with Sevilla which allowed the Spanish side back into the game, failing to clear a cross.

United drew that game 2-2 with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane picking up injuries, which rules the former out for the season.

It may have been thought that Malacia had simply been dropped. But Erik ten Hag has now clarified that Malacia is injured.

Ten Hag told MUTV: “He [Malacia] has a sore knee and already he was struggling in the week. Today it was too bad to start.”

Malacia was replaced with Diogo Dalot who started at left-back, while Brandon Williams and Marc Jurado are on the bench.

He was replaced in the starting line-up by Christian Eriksen. Goalkeeper Nathan Bishop stepped up to the bench,

United are still without Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw, who have not yet returned from their injuries despite hopes of an early return.
