Tyler Fletcher sends message after maiden World Cup campaign, Cunha and Fernandes respond

Tyler Fletcher didn’t play a single minute at this World Cup for Scotland, but it would have been a remarkable experience for him.

Drafted into the Scotland squad late as a replacement for Billy Gilmour, Tyler Fletcher watched from the bench as his country crashed out of the group stages.

His call-up itself was a huge surprise, so it raised no eyebrows that he didn’t play a single minute, but he’d be proud nonetheless.

He has now sent a message after Scotland’s elimination, receiving responses from Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes, among others.

Tyler Fletcher sends message after Scotland’s elimination

Granted, Scotland were in a tough group, paired alongside Morocco and Brazil, but ultimately, their undoing was their own doing.

They won just 1-0 against Haiti and looked toothless throughout, so Fletcher wasn’t really in a position to merit any minutes, as he’s a defensive midfielder.

Upon Scotland’s elimination from the tournament, Fletcher wrote on his Instagram, “An unbelievable few weeks, from making my international debut to being part of Scotland’s World Cup squad, an experience I’ll never forget. A huge thank you to the gaffer for everything. Wishing you all the best for the future.”

The Man Utd youngster has a good head on his shoulders, and this experience at his age will do him a world of good.

That’s the sentiment shared by Cunha and Fernandes, too, with both players encouraging him in responses.

Cunha said, “Be proud, my boy,” while Fernandes wrote, “Proud of you, kid.” His academy teammates also flooded the comments section.

Supportive responses arrived from Jacob Devaney, Godwill Kukonki, Gabriele Biancheri, and more, while JJ Gabriel liked the post.

Fletcher will now have some time off before returning to Carrington for a pivotal pre-season where he can establish himself as a genuine first-team option.
