Manchester United will have been dreading AFCON all season long, and it’s now arrived with Amad the biggest miss of the three departures.

While both Bryan Mbuemo and Noussair Mazraoui are big losses for Manchester United, it is Amad who leaves the biggest gap in the team.

United could be without the three for the best part of a month, with the loss of Amad at right wing-back or right wing being fatal to Ruben Amorim’s system.

Nobody else in the first-team squad can do what Amad does from right wing-back, with Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu just not good enough going forward.

Due to this, Amorim might have to look towards the academy, and he has done exactly that during training.

Bendito Mantato and Jaydan Kamason in first-team training

AFCON has seen United’s right side completely torn apart, with the first-choice in each position not available to Amorim.

With a small first-team squad, Amorim will now have to use the academy for his bench and potentially even minutes for the likes of Shea Lacey.

But on Saturday, a duo who are perfect to replace Amad at right wing-back were spotted in training.

Bendito Mantato and Jaydan Kamason were both involved in training as part of a strong academy contingent, which included Godwill Kukonki, Lacey, and Jack Fletcher.

Most interesting is Mantato and Kamason, with the duo thought to be strong contenders for the wing-back role, which now needs strengthening.

Ruben Amorim should give Mantato or Kamason their Manchester United debut

Mantato has long been considered an Amorim player, perfect for the wing-back role in this system, with the same ability to make driving runs from deep as Amad.

Likewise, Kamason was considered Amorim’s own Geovany Quenda. However, with Kamason only recently back from long-term injury, chances are he won’t be pushed up immediately.

United are very excited about Mantato, which probably makes him the more likely player Amorim would use over the next few weeks if he decides to be brave and use the academy.

Interestingly, Mantato has added defensive quality to his game recently, and this is yet another factor that could help him to play for United in the near future.
