Tom Heaton shares what ‘very impressive’ Senne Lammens has done during Man Utd training

On transfer deadline day, Manchester United finally added a new goalkeeper to the ranks in the form of Senne Lammens.

Despite a strong interest in signing Emi Martinez from Aston Villa, it was ultimately the Belgian that Manchester United decided to go for.

Senne Lammens is a completely different profile to Martinez, being young and high potential, opposed to a quick fix.

United view Lammens as the best young goalkeeper on the market, and his performance over the past year for Royal Antwerp certainly demonstrates that to be the case.

Unlike Altay Bayindir, Lammens is a strong shot stopper, doing the traditional goalkeeper role very well, and almost being like a young David de Gea with some of his saves.

Now, Tom Heaton has shared his verdict on the 23-year-old after seeing him training.

Senne Lammens is already impressing during Manchester United training

Despite his youth, Lammens has been compared with Thibaut Courtois and seen as his successor in the Belgian national team.

Courtois even backs Lammens to become a star, as he told Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel via voice note.

Now, another goalkeeper has thrown support behind Lammens, in the form of United leader Tom Heaton, who will have trained closely with the Belgian over the past few weeks.

“It’s only been a few days of training, but he seems like a really good lad,” Heaton told the Training Ground Guru podcast.

“He’s calm but has a strong personality. His goalkeeping fundamentals are very impressive, and I think I said that to him after a couple of days’ training.

“Twenty-three years old coming into Manchester United, first few days’ training and he’s been very impressive so far. I really like his goalkeeping fundamentals.”

Lammens having strong ‘goalkeeping fundamentals’ will be like music to the ears of United supporters who have watched Andre Onana and Bayindir both fail to do the simple things right for years.

Now, Ruben Amorim surely will be preparing Lammens for his debut.

Senne Lammens must start for Manchester United vs Chelsea

Last weekend, many expected Lammens to be straight into the starting line-up; however, Amorim stuck with Bayindir.

As a repayment for this faith, Bayindir was one of United’s worst players as he was weak for basically all three goals.

Erling Haaland even admitted Bayindir’s mistakes after he scored twice past him to put the game beyond return.

So after this disaster, Lammens surely gets his debut against Chelsea this weekend at Old Trafford.

The longer he has to wait, the bigger the pressure, so starting him now when the bare minimum will be commended in goal is an easy win for the manager and also Lammens.
