Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri has been highlighted as an example for more senior players to follow.

Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood spoke this week on the Kelly and Wrighty Show and was critical of manager Erik ten Hag.

He also slammed defender Raphael Varane for not living up to expectations.

But there was one player he admits he has been quite impressed by.

Hannibal Mejbri praised

Tunisia international Hannibal Mejbri was called up into the Manchester United first team last month.

He gave the team a jolt in the loss to Brighton with a long range goal, before impressing in starts against Burnley, Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.

Sherwood praised Hannibal’s work rate as setting an example to the team’s more senior players.

He said: “Hannibal has started a few games a couple of weeks ago, he was their best player.

“Why? Because he wanted to run around, he wanted to tackle. Someone like Bruno, who I think is a fantastic player, and Marcus Rashford, who is from the academy, they need to look at some of these kids who are coming in, who really appreciate the opportunity to get onto the pitch.

“They need to start pulling their finger out.”

Erik ten Hag and Hannibal both want more

Erik ten Hag left Hannibal out of the league defeat to Crystal Palace, a decision which looked like a mistake.

He then played only 45 minutes against Galatasaray, and did not feature in the win over Brentford.

This indicates Ten Hag wants more from Hannibal than what he has provided so far, while the midfielder might feel aggrieved he has not played a little more.

Ten Hag may be missing a trick, because Hannibal has performed strongly with every chance he has been given, and as Sherwood points out, he has set a good example to the rest of the squad, which goes a long way when the other players are not hitting the high notes.
