Tim Sherwood has slammed Erik ten Hag for having no ‘clear style of play’ and says he relies on individual brilliance.
Erik ten Hag hasn’t had the start to the 2023/24 season that he likely expected. Four wins and four losses in the opening eight games of the Premier League season.
This poor start has been added to by two losses in the Champions League. A win in the League Cup being the one positive this season which emphasises how poor the team have been.
Following the Brentford game, Tim Sherwood appeared on the Kelly and Wrighty Show to discuss the weekend’s action.
Sherwood clearly not a fan of Ten Hag, slammed the United boss for his lack of plan.

Erik ten Hag slammed for having no plan
“Basically what they’re doing under Ten Hag is buying a load of superstars and hoping that they perform, because they haven’t got a clear style of play.”
Sherwood continued, “I haven’t seen any patterns or any structure, all I see is throwing a group of players out onto the pitch to see where they land and hoping one of the superstars pulls you out of the mire and that is exactly what has happened.”
Before correcting himself that Scott McTominay isn’t a star, “That’s not a superstar, that’s just a kid who really wants to play for the badge.”
Sherwood is wrong about Manchester United
Sherwood’s comments indicate that he isn’t watching Manchester United on the regular.
To say United don’t have a system is naive of him, the issue with Ten Hag’s side at the moment is the system is struggling to come together, opposed to not having one at all.
The plan is clear, high possession with a high press to keep the opponent penned into their half.
At it’s best we saw how dominant United were against Crystal Palace in the League Cup. That is what Ten Hag wants to see regularly but it unfortunately just isn’t clicking consistently right now.
