Manchester United’s new number one looked destined to be Andre Onana, but now this may not be the case. So – here are four cheaper alternatives to the Cameroonian.
It appears that Andre Onana is too expensive for Manchester United given their current budget.
The keeper had held positive talks with the club and was keen to join Erik ten Hag and the squad this summer – but due to funds, United may be forced to look elsewhere.
This is really poor from United. Ten Hag needs his desired signings if he’s going to be successful. Nevertheless, if he is to look elsewhere – here are a few decent options.

Justin Bijlow
According to the Mirror, the Feyenoord goalkeeper is one heavily on the radar of Manchester United. The Dutchman is expected to cost £20m. However, it is also expected that Feyenoord are very reluctant to sell the 25-year-old.
It’s no surprise the Dutch side are reluctant. The keeper was integral to Feyenoord’s Eredivisie triumph. However, a club like Manchester United only comes knocking ever so often, so the player could potentially force the move.
This one would be completely out of the blue and is a bit of a risk. Is it even an upgrade on David De Gea?

David Raya
This one just makes perfect sense. The Mirror has reported that amid Tottenham Hotspur’s major interest, there could be the potential of a hijacked bid from Manchester United.
This one makes perfect sense. Raya is already Premier League proven and is one of the best in the business. He can play with his feet, is a phenomenal shot-stopper and is a clear upgrade on De Gea.
Thomas Frank has publicly stated the club wants a fee of around £40m for Raya, which is in the budget. Get it done!

Kevin Trapp
Another cheaper alternative the Mirror have identified is Kevin Trapp. The Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer and the 32-year-old even admitted he would be interested in joining.
However, this seems like a temporary solution rather than a long term. Saying this, given the financial situation, this may be something United have to look into.
Last season the keeper was priced at £21m. Way within the means of United’s ideal fee. But – for his age? We’re not so sure.
