It is understood that talks have been held with Andre Onana for a move to Old Trafford – but there is an issue before the deal can progress.

Manchester United are currently on the hunt for a new number one, as they look to have axed club legend David De Gea and will let his contract run out at the end of today – making him a free agent.

The interest in Onana has really ramped up over the past few days and it appears today has been the first point of contact between the Cameroonian and the club, with tentative discussions taking place.

The talks allegedly went well, with talkSPORT reporting live on air before that the player is ‘open to a move’ – however, there appears to be one issue stopping it from progressing.

United need to SELL before Onana deal can progress

Despite holding initial talks with Inter Milan over Andre Onana, United will first need to sell some of their current players in order to comfortably afford a new number one, a striker and pay Chelsea for Mason Mount, as per talkSPORT.

This is quite the predicament for United, as De Gea’s contract is running down, so the number one is soon set to be the priority.

Despite this, there still is also one striker at the club in Anthony Martial. He is massively injury-prone and can’t be trusted to lead the line for 90 minutes, never mind a full season.

This means United need to sell fast – but they do have options.

The most logical thing would be to sell Dean Henderson and then use the funds to complete the Onana deal – whether there’s a bid from another cub, however, remains to be seen.

Outfield-wise, United are also open to offers on Fred, Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho – so they could certainly be assets used to acquire funds.

How much is Onana worth?

Inter Milan want a total of 60 million Euros to sell Andre Onana, reports Alfredo Pedulla. This works out at a total of £52 million.

United will be desperate to offload some names in the coming days so the deal can get in motion. Let’s see what materialises.
