Thomas Frank is ‘not surprised’ that Bryan Mbeumo has hit the ground running at Manchester United, after managing the Cameroon international for six years at Brentford.
It has been a positive start to life at Manchester United for Bryan Mbeumo, although the results from the beginning of the season have been far from ideal.
Mbeumo has been named Premier League Player of the Month for October by playing a key role in United’s unbeaten run.
The 26-year-old has scored five goals in 11 appearances for the Red Devils, but he will be hoping to get back on the scoresheet soon after failing to find the back of the net in United’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
Mbeumo can get back to his goalscoring ways when United take on Tottenham Hotspur in a game that will see the forward come up against his former manager, Thomas Frank, who also left Brentford in the summer.

Thomas Frank backs Bryan Mbeumo to succeed at Man Utd
It was a difficult summer for Brentford as they lost a key player as well as a manager who had been at the club for almost seven years.
Frank did an incredible job at Brentford by taking them from being a competitive Championship side to an established Premier League fixture.
The Dane was Brentford manager when the club signed Mbeumo from Troyes for £5.8 million in 2019, before the powerful attacker went on to make 242 appearances for the Bees.
Mbeumo’s rise to prominence saw him join United in the summer for a fee which could rise to £71 million, but his performances thus far have been brilliant.
Ahead of United’s trip to Tottenham, Frank expressed pride in Mbeumo’s six-year transformation and suggested that he has been Ruben Amorim’s best attacking player.
Speaking to reporters at his press conference on Friday, Frank said: “When you work with a player for six years, you get a close relationship.
“To see him develop from being a young man, 19 years old when he moved to London and Brentford and left six years later, going into one of the biggest clubs in the world with all that focus and the way he stepped up.
“For me, looking from the outside, maybe a little bit biased, I think he’s been their best offensive player. He can create, he can score, he works hard, he’s a team player. He’s the perfect example, in my opinion, for a player what I call about attitude, confident but humble.
“He’s a top player. I think he will have fantastic success. I hope that for him, not tomorrow, but in general I hope and wish him all the best.”
This explains why Tottenham initially looked like a competitor for Mbeumo’s signature, but the player made the right decision moving his career to Old Trafford.
Bryan Mbeumo seeking fifth goal against Tottenham
Although Mbeumo has only managed to beat Spurs on one occasion, the United star will be looking to score his fifth goal against the London outfit since moving to England.
Mbeumo’s only win over Tottenham came when he scored a brace and assisted one goal in a 3-1 win two years ago.

United’s head coach will be hoping for a similar performance, while Frank would prefer Mbeumo to have one of his worst performances.
It doesn’t help that Tottenham beat United four times last season, including the Europa League final in May, so the Red Devils should be demanding revenge when they walk out on the pitch this afternoon.
