Fabrizio Romano has provided a key update on the future of Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire at Old Trafford amid rumblings of contract talks.
Harry Maguire has remained a key Manchester United first-team player and influential figure at Old Trafford under Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim.
Maguire has adapted well to Ruben Amorim’s tactical system at United and the 32-year-old England star has often been deployed centrally in the three-man backline.
The former United captain has made seven appearances across all competitions this season and Maguire is out of contract with the Premier League club next summer.
Maguire will be able to speak with clubs outside of England from January and sign a pre-contract agreement if the England international does choose to leave United.

Fabrizio Romano explains the all-important detail that needs to be agreed upon between Man Utd and Harry Maguire
Manchester United triggered Harry Maguire’s contract extension back in January amid the Red Devils’ underwhelming 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
Maguire would have been out of contract with the Red Devils at the end of the previous season before United activated his contract clause and extended his stay.
United are reportedly in talks with Maguire now over a new deal at the club and Fabrizio Romano has revealed the key detail that the contract hinges on his wages.
“United are happy with Maguire, on and off the pitch, [and] also in terms of leadership,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“Maguire is happy at Man United and would love to stay, but the numbers must be different.
“Can’t be the same contract [that] Harry Maguire had at Manchester United in the recent years.
“So, if they can agree on the numbers, on the financials of this new contract, Harry Maguire has a very good chance to stay at Manchester United and sign a new contract at the club.”

Maguire’s current wages at United are believed to be around £190,000 per week and the ex-Red Devils skipper would be required to take a pay cut to extend his stay.
However, the England centre-back’s wages have already been reduced to £140,000 a week after United failed to secure Champions League football for this season.
Romano has said that Maguire could still leave Old Trafford if United are unable to agree a new deal with the former Leicester City star due to his wages at the club.
“Otherwise, they will part ways on a free transfer in the summer,” he continued.
“But the intention for Maguire, for Man United, is to continue these discussions. A meeting already took place.”
Romano added: “More will follow in the next [few] days, weeks. We will follow the situation, but for sure, Manchester United are actively working on this.
“So, if Harry Maguire decides to accept a different salary, his new contract can be done soon with Manchester United.
“So, this is going to be a case to follow for the Red Devils.”
Maguire has lifted a League Cup and an FA Cup with United after the Red Devils paid a whopping £80m to sign the England star from Leicester City back in 2019.
