Ruben Amorim cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Everton.
It was not exactly the response Ruben Amorim was looking for after last week’s loss to Tottenham.
Manchester United’s last-ever visit to Goodison Park resulted in a disastrous 45 minutes where the Red Devils were frankly lucky to be only two goals down at half-time.
Amorim’s half-time team talk was focused on players sticking to the game plan and it resulted in a much-improved second-half performance led by Bruno Fernandes in a deeper midfield role.
Manuel Ugarte completed the comeback, and Amorim was keen to take the positives from the second-half display. But the first 45 minutes were concerning, and Amorim slammed United’s “soft” performance.
Even before Everton scored the opener, Amorim was seething on the sidelines.

The moment Ruben Amorim ‘lost his cool’ vs Everton
Starting matches poorly has become a worrying pattern under Amorim, and United lasted just 19 minutes before Beto broke the deadlock on Saturday afternoon.
Before that, the United boss was far from happy with his side’s performance and the Manchester Evening News spotted one moment that summed up his frustration.
Five minutes before the opener, Amorim “lost his cool and dropped to his knees” on the touchline after seeing how much space was afforded to Beto.
Despite identifying the problem, Amorim’s instructions clearly didn’t get through to the players as just moments later he was given another chance in the box after several comical attempts at clearing the ball.
Things went from bad to worse when Abdoulaye Doucoure doubled Everton’s lead 14 minutes later.
Once again it was individual errors that cost United, yet Amorim will face more questions aimed at his tactical set-up.
Ruben Amorim makes training demand to Man United squad
United looked unorganised and toothless in the first half, yet the performance changed once Amorim reiterated his game plan to players at half-time.
Looking ahead to Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town, Amorim sent a strong message to his players about their work in training.

“We need to win. It’s a different game, we proved that we can make a very good game but then in the next game we have the momentum but don’t show the best way [to play] the game,” Amorim said.
“So, what we need to is work during the week and do in the game what we work [on] in the week.”
Amorim has wanted more time in training, but now players need to use that and put it into practice.
It is something this United squad have struggled to do under several managers.
