Manchester United have appointed Michael Carrick as interim manager for the rest of the season, after Ruben Amorim was sacked.
This is Carrick’s second stint in the dugout, after he managed United for three games in 2021, following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.
Carrick was unbeaten during his previous three games in charge, and he set a unique club record too.

Carrick’s first win went down in history
Michael Carrick created history in his first game in charge, a 2-0 away win over Unai Emery’s Villarreal.
Carrick became the first English manager to win his first match in charge of Manchester United since Walter Crickmer in 1931, a 90 year gap.
United were of course managed for long periods by great Scotsman, Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson, before a succession of foreign coaches more recently.
But there were three English managers who tried and failed to win their first game in charge of the club during the 90 year gap.
Wilf McGuinness, Dave Sexton and Ron Atkinson all tried and failed to lead United to victories in their first games in charge of the club.
Carrick was able to end that trend, becoming the rare English manager to get a chance at United and win his opening match.

Carrick looking for repeat
Michael Carrick will be looking to repeat his success when he takes charge of the club again this coming weekend.
Since his brief spell, an Austrian, a Dutchman, a Portuguese and a Scot have all tried their hands in the dugout. Ralf Rangnick was the only one to win his opening game.
Carrick has a tough task this weekend when United host City, but with home support and a team with a point to prove, don’t rule anything out.
